The practical workshop on 'New Work in public administration', organised by the National Institute for Public Administration Germany (NIPAG) and chaired by Prof. Dr Jan Ziekow, was held on 12 and 13 June 2023. A range of experiences and insights into approaches to New Work from the private sector and public administration were presented to leaders at federal and state level.

A total of five keynote speeches from the scientific community (NIPAG), the private sector (Deutsche Kreditbank AG), the federal level (Federal Office of Administration), the state level (Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg/Department of Finance) and the communal level (City of Bochum and County of Darmstadt-Dieburg) stimulated an intensive exchange among the participants on current and future challenges and requirements for the transformation of the administration through New Work approaches. The speakers from the private sector and public administration presented their individual New Work concepts as they are already being implemented or are going to be implemented in the future and also reported on the obstacles and successes encountered during their conception, introduction and/or permanent implementation.

The workshop was the prelude to further, more in-depth events that will deal intensively with the practical implementation of New Work approaches in public administration at all three levels. The NIPAG will also organise and design the content of these events.
