NIPAG participates in the annual conference of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) on the topic 'Use of AI in public administration'

This year's annual conference of the German Section of the IIAS focused on 'The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in public administration'. Research associates from the National Institute for Public Administration Germany (NIPAG) were present to discuss the topic with practitioners.

The annual conference of the German Section of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) took place from 11 to 12 November 2024 in Berlin. NIPAG research associates were also among the participants.

Entitled 'The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in public administration', this year's conference focused on the use of technological applications that can mimic human abilities such as reasoning, learning, planning and creativity. Recent examples from federal, state and local governments were presented.

One focus of the conference was the examination of the European Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act), which is came into force on 1 August 2024. The aim of this legislation is to facilitate the responsible development and use of AI in the European Union.

The NIPAG has been involved in a number of research projects investigating the potential applications of artificial intelligence in proceedings for some time now, also examining aspects from a legal perspective.
