Youth-check: Taking young people’s perspective into account in legislation

Description and content of the event

The Competence Centre Youth Check (ComYC) is a project of the National Institute for Public Administration Germany (NIPAG). As part of the 18th German Child and Youth Welfare Congress in Leipzig, the ComYC will present its experiences with the youth-specific regulatory impact assessment tool „youth-check“ and show how young people’s perspective can be taken into account in legislation.

The event will focus on the differences between youth-specific impact assessments at federal and state level and present opportunities for the participation of young people. In a panel discussion, representatives from various federal states as well as from expert community will discuss perspectives and experiences with the youth-check. Questions on the benefits, experiences and perception of the youth-check at federal and state level will be discussed.

  • Jürgen Schattmann, Ministerium für Kinder, Jugend, Familie, Gleichstellung, Flucht und Integration des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen
  • Milena Neumes, Moderation

The audience will also have the opportunity to engage with the panel and exchange ideas. The event is aimed at politics, administration and the professional public.

The German Child and Youth Welfare Congress (Deutscher Kinder- und Jugendhilfetag) is the biggest child and youth welfare summit in Europe. The Child and Youth Welfare Association (AGJ) organises the summit every three to four years at different locations in Germany. It consists of an exhibition and a congress, which will take place simultaneously at Messe Leipzig from 13th to 15th May 2025. The motto of this year's DJHT is „It’s about the big picture: making democracy happen by participating“.
