The closing event was opened by the Deputy President of the Parliament of Thuringia, Madeleine Henfling, and the Thuringia State Secretary for Youth, Prof. Dr Winfried Speitkamp, who thanked the 'Youth Team' for their commitment, their ideas and their time. The 30 or so participants were then given an update on the progress of the draft legislation under discussion and how the feedback from the ministries responsible had been taken into account in their adaptation. During a group phase, the 'Youth Team' took a detailed look at the Youth Check Thuringia project, learned about other opportunities available for young people to participate in Thuringia and used the opportunity for feedback. The event concluded with a visit to the Thuringia State Parliament.
About the Youth Check Thuringia project
Youth Check Thuringia is a project by the National Institute for Public Administration Germany (NIPAG) and is funded by the Thuringia State Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports (TMBJS) from 2022 to 2025. In the project, draft state government laws are examined for their possible effects on young people in order to contribute to legislation which supports young people. The 'Youth Team' is a format for young people to participate and become involved in the Youth Check project. It consists of 50 young people from all over Thuringia who were invited to take part in a double random selection procedure at the beginning of 2023. Over the past twelve months, the 'Youth Team' has been invited three times to contribute their perspectives and assessments of draft legislation of particular relevance to young people in Thuringia within the framework of the Youth Check Thuringia project. The consultation was led by the Youth Participation Support Centre of the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports of the State of Thuringia (TMBJS) in cooperation with the Landesjugendring Thüringen e.V. and was supported by the Youth Check Thuringia project bureau, which provided a scientific assessment of the consequences of the legislation.
