New project on assessing the gender-sensitive impact of legislation
The German government has set itself the goal of assessing the gender impact of legislation at the drafting stage. To this end, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) published a guidance document in 2021 on how to assess the impact of legislation from a gender perspective. This provides federal ministries with a comprehensive checklist and detailed guidance on how to assess the impact of their regulations on gender equality.
The next stage of the project will be to examine how the implementation of the checklist can be further promoted and how the ministries can be better supported in the gender-specific impact assessment of legislation.
