Retrospective: Legal issues in virtual worlds - JuWissDay 2024

Virtual worlds are seen as the next big thing. The tech industry is no longer the sole focus of interest in this area; the Conference of Ministers of Justice and the EU Commission are also engaged. The concepts of the metaverse, Web3 and Web 4.0 are becoming increasingly intertwined. However, they all share a common expectation: the 'Internet of Tomorrow' will revolutionise our relationship with digital space by merging physical, augmented and virtual reality. At JuWissDay 2024 on 27 and 28 September 2024 at the German Research Institute for Public Administration in Speyer, we will examine the reality behind the hype, the key players influencing it and, most importantly, the legal and regulatory challenges that virtual worlds present for the state and society.
