Inter-municipal cooperation as a reform approach - the Rhineland-Palatinatian way

Inter-municipal cooperation (IMC), for example in the form of special purpose associations, has a long tradition in Rhineland-Palatinate, has proven itself as reliable in many projects, and is an important component of municipal task fulfilment. With regard to specific tasks at the local level, inter-municipal cooperation can also be an efficient and effective alternative to territorial reforms. The potentials of IMCs are by no means exhausted already and following this reform path can be expedient in order to adjust to foreseeable changes and requirements. In this project, possible (new) areas for further inter-municipal cooperation were identified, possible (new) organisational forms examined, the assurance of task fulfilment investigated, and the effects on the bodies of local authorities involved explored.
