German Research Institute for Public Administration

History

As an independent entity, the Institute was founded in 1976. Institutional precursors at the University of Administrative Sciences Speyer, however, date back another two decades, to the early days of research on public administration in post-war Germany.

The Institute was among the first to receive joint funding from the German states and the federal government when they compiled the “Blue List” of institutions of national scientific interest in 1977. Today, the Institute is a member of the Leibniz Association, a league of more than 80 non-university research institutes in Germany that seek to combine basic and applied science in an interdisciplinary manner.
